Democrats Unite in Support of Russ Warner After Hoyt Hilsman Drops Out of Race
"The choice between me and David Dreier couldn't be clearer," said Warner
Russ Warner, the
Democrat running for Congress against David Dreier in California's 26th district, reacted to news
that his primary challenger, Hoyt Hilsman has decided to drop out of the race.
"I respect Hoyt's decision and wish him well. He's a good man who is committed
to improving his community and his country. However, I am glad to be able
to turn my full attention to David Dreier.
David Dreier has lost touch with people here - and his record shows it. When David Dreier votes to deny millions of
children health care and consistently supports the continued expansion of the Iraq war - he's
voting for George Bush's agenda - not ours.
Warner has raised nearly $400,000 this campaign cycle, and has secured endorsements from several members of Congress, members of the state legislature and Democratic Party leaders, including new endorsements from Congressman Adam Schiff, California Senator Jack Scott and Assemblyman Anthony Portantino. Warner's campaign got a boost in December when the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee named Dreier among the 40 most vulnerable members of Congress, and listed Warner as the Democrat who can defeat him.
"People want change and a representative in Congress who understands them and who will fight to improve their communities, not sit around Washington and serve as a lap dog for George Bush and his failed policies, " said Warner.
