Russ Warner Endorsed by California Democratic Party
San Jose, CA -- The California Democratic Party voted Sunday to endorse Russ Warner, the Democrat running against David Dreier in the 26th Congressional district.
"I am honored to receive the endorsement of the California Democratic Party," Warner said following Sunday's vote at the state convention held in San Jose.
The state party's endorsement affirms that Warner is the Democrats' choice in the upcoming June 3rd primary. His campaign has also been bolstered by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's listing of Dreier among the nation's 40 most vulnerable members of Congress. Warner was named as the candidate to defeat him.
"The 26th Congressional District needs a member of Congress who will work to end the war in Iraq and redirect the billions of wasted taxpayer dollars to our priorities here at home. David Dreier has been a tireless advocate for the war in Iraq, has consistently voted against veterans' benefits and has been a rubberstamp for Bush's failed policies," said Warner. "We can do better."
Along with building Democratic support, Warner has been working diligently for the past year to raise the money needed to defeat Dreier. His campaign has raised over $500,000 in contributions, which is by far the most money raised by any Democratic challenger who has faced Dreier since he was first elected to Congress in 1980. In addition, he has earned the support of numerous community and political leaders, including Congresswoman Hilda Solis and Congressman Adam Schiff. Recently, Warner received the endorsement of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, which represents more than 845,000 workers in Los Angeles County.
A successful small businessman, Warner has lived in the district for nearly 27 years with his wife, Kris, and their three sons. Greg, their eldest, is in the U.S. Army and served in Iraq for seventeen months. Upon his return home from the war, Greg challenged his father to make a difference by running for Congress. Warner believes we need new leadership with new priorities to represent the values of the 26th District.
