Warner Seeks to Unseat Dreier

Published by La Canada Daily Sun

Rancho Cucamonga businessman Russ Warner will take another shot at unseating many-term incumbent David Dreier next year in the 26th Congressional District.

Warner was a primary candidate last year, but lost to fellow Democrat Cynthia Matthews, who went on to lose to Dreier in November.

The 26th district includes parts of two counties and stretches from La Crescenta/La Cañada Flintridge to Rancho Cucamonga. Dreier is a 28-year incumbent, who lost some of his power when the Democrats won control of Congress and he was unseated as Rules Committee chair.

Warner said, "I am taking on this fight because the war in Iraq must be stopped and America needs new leadership." He called Dreier a "rubber stamp for the Bush administration."

Warner, whose son Greg was assigned to a 17-month tour of duty in Iraq, said, "We need to support our troops by bringing them home, and when they come home, we must ensure they have access to the medical care they need and deserve."

He pledged to work on issues like the rising cost of health care and gasoline prices if elected. "I will fight every day to make sure our government is accountable and focused on serving the people of the 26th District."

Warner has the endorsement of Congresswoman Hilda Solis, who said, "We need more people like Russ Warner who have integrity and courage and will come to Washington to fight for change and get things done."

"At a time when Californians want solutions to our health care, energy and economic challenges, David Dreier is giving us more of the same," Warner said.  "I'm running for Congress because our current leadership is ignoring the growing problems we face.  In Congress I'll fight to swiftly and safely end the war in Iraq and get our country back on track."
